Today marks our 12th episode of the Open for Higher podcast. When LeeAnne Ruff and I first started talking about the genre of our channel, it was always our intention to feature conversations around topics that would help people be more successful in their personal and professional lives. A persistent theme kept surfacing with every topic we proposed, that of mindset, specifically, how one’s mindset can shape every situation. This leads me to share a rather unique point. My father gets asked—on the daily—his secret to living a long life. He is usually perplexed at this question because longevity is not something one has control over. At 98, people view him as a happy man, with a great attitude, who has a zest for life, a thirst for knowledge, a hunger for conversation, and a great love of people. These are all things people DO have control over. The question people really should be asking him is, What is your secret to living a happy life? For this episode, we wanted to learn from someone who consistently exudes a great attitude and wakes up each morning with a positive mindset. The topic around Living a Happy Life started to form and the choice became obvious, we would interview my father, Sidney Chriqui. Throughout this episode there are many common themes around character, attitude, and respect that resonated with us deeply as foundational elements for Open for Higher. As people are looking to do big things in their lives, it’s a good reminder to live well along the way. I hope you enjoy this episode in the context it was intended: approaching all opportunities with an attitude of gratitude. #openforhigher #livewell #happylifehappylifeOpen for Higher on Apple iTuneshttps://apple.co/4asaNdVAlso now on Spotifyhttps://bit.ly/3W6hcaC

"We can understand where someone is coming from without agreeing with them"Powerful words from our guest, Nick Duggan, on this week's episode of Offline & Unfiltered. In our conversation, we dove into the concept of "Workplace Spirituality", a term I was not all that familiar with. The idea of the topic actually made me pretty uncomfortable, due to my own associations with the word spirituality. Which means I was also very excited to talk about it. Our conversation got into some really personal areas for all three of us, but my biggest takeaways were:❤️ Studies show folks are seeking purpose in their work, but we don't always take the time to define what "deeply meaningful" means for us. 🗨 Words are powerful, and it's important to remember that something you feel is positive could have a negative connotation for someone else.💡 Get outside of your bubble. Seeking to understand someone else's beliefs or perspectives does not mean you have to change your own. You may find more similarities than differences.I really enjoyed recording this episode. I hope you give it a listen, and find some time to think about what is deeply meaningful to you.🔮 Listen to Offline & Unfiltered wherever you find podcasts.

It helps us to live our lives efficiently but often becomes a source of constant, unwanted noise. In this episode, Dr. Mandla advises listeners to be mindful of the potential negative influences technology can have on peace and tranquility. He suggests the best way to lessen these effects is by practicing restraint or limiting its use, especially during supposed rest periods. They also share how different cultures perceive silence and the varying degrees of comfort levels with silence across generations. Listeners will get a deeper understanding of how inner peace can help them maintain their emotional barriers against the distractions of the outer world. This episode also highlights various insights on seeking solace even amidst the urban chaos and noise pollution's detrimental effects on one's overall health.Join us in this thoughtful exploration of peace, silence, and rest. Your voice is a tool. Are you using it?In this episode, Melanie Lawson and Olivia Evans delve into a quote from James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, on over communication…“If you wait to reply because you don’t have an answer yet (or because you don’t want to share bad news), the other party often ends up making assumptions about what the delayed reply might mean. Silence frustrates and confuses people. Better to communicate early and often.” - James ClearBeing vague or not responding at all can bring about the very thing you’re trying to avoid. That awkward, icky vibe. Or worse yet, an argument. Saying the hard thing you’re putting off can lead to deeper connections and clearer understanding. This is your sign to say the thing you think you can’t say.Listen to the full episode now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or watch the conversation over on YouTube #TheMelLawsonShow
